Anna Joy Springer, Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Visual Arts Facility: Performance Space
	Anna Joy Springer is a prose writer and visual artist who makes Grotesques. That is, she creates hybrid texts combining sacred and profane elements in order to prompt intensely embodied conceptual-emotional experiences in readers. Formerly a singer in the Bay Area bands, Blatz, The Gr'ups, and Cypher in the Snow, Anna Joy has toured the United States and Europe being a wild feminist punk performer, and she has also toured with the all-women spoken word extravaganza, Sister Spit.  Author of the illustrated novella THE BIRDWISHER (Birds of Lace Press, January 2008), she is currently finishing her first "novel," THE VICIOUS RED RELIC, LOVE.  She received her MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University in 2002, and she is an Assistant Professor of Literature at University of California, San Diego where she truly loves teaching courses in Experimental Writing, Graphic Texts, and Postmodern Feminist Literatures.
Jerry Rothenberg and Steve Willard, Wednesday, January 23, 2008,  4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Visual Arts Facility: Performance Space
	Jerome Rothenberg is an internationally known poet and editor with over seventy books of poems and several assemblages of traditional and contemporary poetry such as Technicians of the Sacred, Exiled in the Word (a.k.a A Big Jewish Book), and Poems for the Millennium (with Pierre Joris). His recent books include Writing Through: Selected Translations and Variations, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz and Other Poems by Pablo Picasso (with Pierre Joris), 25 Caprichos after Goya (with Spanish translations by Heriberto Yepez), and A Second Book of Concealments (published in England by Zeer Press). Rothenberg's thirteenth book from New Directions, Triptych, appeared in 2007. A nineteenth century prequel to his Poems for the Millennium (co-edited by Jeffrey Robinson) is scheduled to be published by UC Press.
	Steve Willard...Poet and musician Steve Willard's collection of poems, Harm., was published by the University of California Press in 2007. His work has been published in journals including Boston Review, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Wildlife, Volt, and 1913. Steve is pursuing a Ph.D in Critical Studies/Experimental Practices at UCSD's music department, and performs with the avant-country band GO DUO.
Fanny Howe, Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Visual Arts Facility: Performance Space
	Fanny Howe  will read from her recently published (UC Press) translations of the poems of Holocaust survivors Henia Karmel and Ilone Karmel. Critic Allen Grossman has said, "These recovered poems of Ilona and her sister Henia open the space behind memory's door, and it is on fire with defiant passion, with longing, with terror, and the raw drive to bear witness..." Fanny Howe is one of America's leading poets and fiction writers. Her recent books include The Lyrics, On The Ground, Gone, and Radical Love. Her Selected Poems won the Lenore Marshall award for best book of poems published in the year 2000.
