Petitions for alternate course options will typically only be considered if there are clearly defined and unavoidable schedule conflicts with an offering (and no additional offerings prior to your planned quarter of graduation). No petitions are guaranteed to be approved, so it is your responsibility to plan your courses accordingly.

If there are European Literature course offerings (LTEU-100 through LTEU-190) that focus on French topics and the course instructor agrees to have the student do the readings and assignments in French, then World Literature & Culture majors (LIT-BA-016) may apply the course to upper division concentration requirement. As long as the instructor confirms that the students did the coursework in French, this will be approved.
If there are European Literature course offerings (LTEU-100 through LTEU-190) that focus on German topics and the course instructor agrees to have the student do the readings and assignments in German, then World Literature & Culture majors (LIT-BA-016) may apply the course to upper division concentration requirement. As long as the instructor confirms that the students did the coursework in German, this will be approved.
If there are European Literature course offerings (LTEU-100 through LTEU-190) that focus on Italian topics and the course instructor agrees to have the student do the readings and assignments in Italian, then World Literature & Culture majors (LIT-BA-016) may apply the course to upper division concentration requirement. Literature/Writing majors (LIT-BA-009) may also choose to apply up to three instances of the Theatre & Dance department's playwriting courses (TDPW-101, TDPW-102 or TDPW-104) to the Writing Workshops requirement.

Literature/Writing majors (LIT-BA-009) may also apply one 4-unit LTWR-199 (independent study) to this requirement, if a faculty member agrees to supervise such a course.
