We are working on expanding this section with more detailed information for our current students. Have a suggestion? Please send it to litinfo@ucsd.edu.
You will be assigned a mailbox in the Graduate Student Lounge, where you will receive both U.S. mail and departmental information in the form of memos, newsletters, and announcements. The Graduate Office is committed to saving paper and we will communicate with you primarily through email. Please check your mailbox and UCSD email regularly so that you will be up-to-date on departmental events.
UCSD students are provided with a free email account. Once you have set up your UCSD email address, please be sure to check it often. At UCSD, email correspondence sent to your @ucsd.edu account is considered official communication and a number of campus offices will communicate with you via this method. If you’d prefer to maintain another email address as your primary, be sure to redirect your @ucsd.edu account. Redirect instructions are available at:
http://acms.ucsd.edu/students/email/redirect.shtml.
Please keep the Graduate Coordinator informed of your current email address and check your email regularly. Be sure that your mailbox has room for incoming messages. Please make sure to keep all of your contact information current on TritonLink; official mailings such as W-2s, and degree notices use the current address in TritonLink.
The UCSD Literature Department uses a listserv (electronic mailing list) for the vast majority of communications with graduate students. This is a self-subscribe list and you are encouraged to add yourself so that you are apprised of upcoming events and opportunities. Instructions on how to subscribe are available at:
http://literature.ucsd.edu/grad/current/litgrads.html
The Graduate Lounge houses your mailbox, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, a toaster and a sink. Please help keep these facilities neat and clean--discard your trash, wipe out the sink and microwave after you use them, and retrieve your items from the refrigerator promptly. The graduate staff uses the lounge as a communication center. Here you will find poster copies of various announcements (please check the listserv for the bulk of these notices); periodicals and information about fellowships. Please be considerate of your fellow students and do not remove information from the room. The telephone number for the Lounge is (858) 534-2607.
The computer room contains iMAC computers, a scanner and two printers. Computers and scanner are free to use for all Literature affiliates, in order to print you need to purchase a print card. Most commonly-used software programs are available on the machines. You may not store your personal files on the machines; please bring your work on a portable flash drive. For any problems with the equipment please contact the Systems Administrator, LIT 129. To purchase a print card please see the Financial Assistant, LIT 112.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING FOOD OR DRINK INTO THE COMPUTER ROOM.
Because this room is locked at all times, you will need an entry code to open the door. Application forms for codes are available from the Student Affairs Assistant in the Graduate Office, LIT 110. Please plan ahead and apply for your code well before you anticipate needing to use the computer facilities
The copier room, which contains two photocopy machines, is always open and available for your use. If you have difficulty with the equipment, or need more paper, please notify the Graduate Office. The photocopy machines allow you to scan a document in PDF format and email to yourself.
By paying a $10 refundable fee, you may activate your student ID card for use in any copy machine on campus. The activation fee is payable by personal check (UC Regents) or cash. Your signature on a copier service agreement is required. Please see the Business Office, LIT 112, for assistance. You will be billed monthly for copying charges.
