AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS

Su Yun Kim has accepted a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship in Korea/Korean Diaspora at Hamilton College, beginning Fall 2008.

John Rieder presented a paper entitled Film Form, Built Space, and the Project of Modernity in My Architect at the April 11-12, 2008 (Dis)junctions: 15th Annual Humanities Conference. University of California, Riverside.

Edwige Tamalet Talbayev organized and chaired a pilot seminar in comparative literature entitled The Politics of Global Modernism: Revisiting Colonial Modernity at the 39th Northeast MLA Annual Convention in Buffalo, NY, April 10-13, 2008. She also presented a paper, Traduit du Silence: Jean El Mouhoub Amrouche's Poetics of Exile. Edwige also received two awards from the NeMLA: a travel grant to attend the conference and one of the eight NeMLA summer fellowships, which support the summer research of graduate students and untenured junior faculty.

Oumelbanine Zhiri has been selected to participate in the NEH Summer Institute, The Medieval Mediterranean and the Emergence of the West, to take place in Barcelona, Spain, from June 30 through July 25, 2008.
