Costs 2013-2014

Resident Fees

All MFA students are charged resident fees (2013/14 Tuition/Fees Schedule). International students and non-California residents are also charged a supplemental fee--see section on Nonresident Fee below.

Students who are employed as teaching assistants (TAs) or readers at 25% time may be eligible for partial remissions of resident fees. Also, some fellowships may offer partial or full remissions. Refer to Funding for more information.

Supplemental Nonresident Fee

Students who are not California residents for tuition purposes must pay a supplemental nonresident fee (approximately $15,100/year) in addition to the resident fees (2013/14 Tuition/Fees Schedule). If you are not sure if you qualify as a California resident see Criteria to Establish Residence for Tuition Purposes.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to establish residency during their first year to avoid owing the supplemental fee during their second year. Some students may be eligible to apply for a waiver of the nonresident fee.

The nonresident fee is not reduced by teaching assistant/reader fee remissions but it may be covered by fellowships. Refer to Funding for more information.
