Virus Software Information - Sophos Proxy

These instructions have been duplicated from the http://sophos.ucsd.edu download site.

In order to run Sophos Update from off-campus (when you do not use UCSD's fee for service dialup), you need to include proxy server information. The instructions below are for MAC OS X and Windows users.

If you are using a different operating system or want to see all the instructions, please go to http://sophos.ucsd.edu and fill out the form again.


MAC OS X
 
1. Click on the Sophos icon (blue shield) in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

2. Select Open Preferences.

 

3. In the Sophos Anti-Virus window, select the AutoUpdate tab.

4. Select the Primary Proxy tab.
 

5. Click the Use custom proxy settings radio dial button. Enter the following for each field:
  • Address: webproxy.ucsd.edu
  • Port: 3128
  • Username: Your UCSD username (almost always for Literature this is your email username)
  • Password: Your UCSD network password (almost always for Literature this is your email password)
6. Click the Set button to close the window and save your changes

Windows (2000/XP)
 
1. Right-click on the Remote Update icon (circle surrounded by dots) in your taskbar.

2. Select Configure from the pop-up menu.
 

3. In the Properties for Remote Update window, select the Primary Server tab.

4. Click the Proxy Details button.



5. In the Proxy details window, check the Access the server via a proxy box. Enter the following for each field:
  • Address: webproxy.ucsd.edu
  • Port: 3128
  • Username: Your UCSD username (almost always for Literature this is your email username)
  • Password: Your UCSD network password (almost always for Literature this is your email password)
  • Confirm: Your UCSD network password
6. Click OK to save your changes and close the window.
