How to setup SMTP (cheat sheet)

Beginning June 1, 2007 Network Operations is requiring authentication by SSL for all off-campus access to the UCSD SMTP server. There are two ways to configure your email so that you can send email from off campus:

  1. Use UCSD's SMTP server and configure your email for SSL.

  2. Use your ISP's SMTP server. Use the SMTP server provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

    1. Ask you ISP what their SMTP server is. A quick list of common ISPs SMTP settings can be found at: http://www-no.ucsd.edu/mail/smtp.html.

    2. Configure your mail reader to use your ISP's SMTP server. Documentation can be found at  http://www-no.ucsd.edu/documentation/ under "Email Configuration".
