Email and Listserv

I already have an email account from my own ISP. Do I need a UCSD account too?

There are two parts to having a UCSD account -- one is having a UCSD account which consists of a username and password and allows you access to dialup services, a laser printer account, Active Directory, etc., the other is a "@ucsd.edu" email account which is basically an address associated with your UCSD Account that you use to check email.  Usually your "UCSD" and "@ucsd.edu" address look similiar (ie. Joe Doe's UCSD account would be "jdoe" and his email address would be "jdoe@ucsd.edu". )

UCSD account:

In order to receive official UCSD notices, have a "Link Account" or logon to UCSD's active directory network you need to have a UCSD account.

UCSD email account:

Having a UCSD account doesn't mean you have to check email in two accounts -- you can have your UCSD mail automatically forwarded to another address. Check out "Changing your @ucsd.edu email address".

How can I use a web page to check my @ucsd.edu email?

You can access your email at https://mail.ucsd.edu.
